CONNECTIONS TO COLLEGE
As part of the C2C program, youths spend the summer at Northeastern University getting used to college life, attending a college-level sociology class taught just for them, and learning how to apply for college and financial aid.
This year’s group of rising sophomores and juniors want to go to college, but only half feel confident that they know how to navigate the application and funding processes.
During the school year, high school juniors and seniors tour local colleges on occasional Saturdays. Youths who are not enrolled in the C2C program are welcome to attend.
Contact Donna Woodson by email or at 617-282-6110 ext. 25 to inquire about upcoming tours.
MATH IS NOT MY ENEMY
The Math is Not My Enemy program provides encouragement and aid to students who are often discouraged from building skills and interest in in math. This program aims to find common ground with youths in math.
Youths have two 45-minute one-on-one sessions with a math instructor who will help the youth complete their homework and understand math concepts they are struggling with. This approach helps build self-confidence, increase problem solving, and encourages the youth to build upon their current skill level with the goal of elevating their academic standing by one letter grade.
HOMEWORK ROOM
Every student spends at least 30 minutes in the Homework Room. Through collaborations with local universities such as Boston College and Northeastern University. Our service learning students help coordinate the space with tutoring assistance for youth struggling in specific academic areas. one-on-one pairings are made to those youth who need it.
